and former leader of the french resistance after the surrender in 1940,
gives a speech in Bonn in presence of

Konrad Adenauer, first Chancellor of West Germany.

In german, he tells about the admiration and trust he feels for the "great german people"
(which, I think, was quite a statement coming from him).

A few month later, the two statesmen signed in Paris the Élysée Treaty,
sometimes referred to as the Treaty of Friendship.
