In einem Interview für den geopolitischen Youtube-Podcast "Deep Dive" geht der Oberst a.D. der US-Armee und Politikwissenschaftler Douglas Macgregor auf den Konflikt in der Ukraine und die plausible Aussicht auf ein Scheitern der US-geführten westlichen Koalition im Stellvertreterkrieg gegen Russland ein. Um einen Eindruck von der aktuellen Lage im Westen zu vermitteln, erinnert er an die Szene aus dem Film "Der Untergang" (2004), in der Adolf Hitler, gespielt von dem Schauspieler Bruno Ganz, kurz vor seinem Selbstmord nach dem "Endsieg" gefragt wird, von dem die Nazis während des Krieges ständig sprachen. Dabei verweist Macgregor zum einen auf das Fehlen einer Strategie seitens der USA und ihrer "Vasallen", die mit einer wahren Einschätzung des "Feindes" einhergeht. Andererseits sprach er von der Unfähigkeit im Westen, "die Wahrheit zu sagen" und seiner Neigung, "die Realität zu ignorieren".
"Unser Finanzsystem steckt in großen Schwierigkeiten. Wir haben uns selbst in den Bankrott getrieben. Niemand will es öffentlich zugeben", sagt er.
Laut Macgregor übt sich Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin in "strategischer Geduld" und wartet auf die Europawahlen, nach denen, wie in der Slowakei geschehen, Regierungen die Oberhand gewinnen werden, die sich von der russlandfeindlichen Politik abwenden.
"Wenn man sich anschaut, was sie heute in Deutschland für Erdgas, Flüssiggas und Öl bezahlen und was sie früher bezahlt haben, dann erleben sie jetzt eine Deindustrialisierung. Die vielen qualifizierten und exzellenten Arbeitskräfte, die es in all diesen Industrien gab, stehen jetzt auf der Straße und haben keine Arbeit. Nichts davon ist nachhaltig."
